The Hooting Owl Distillery
The Hooting Owl Distillery is an award winning gin, gin gifts, gin tasting, and tours in York.
Their Story:
Hooting owl story a prominent golden owl statue taking place above the entrance of the house named Sir Tyton Hodgins.
They take inspiration from history, military, flora & fauna, and the flavour from around the Yorkshire regions.
Their first five gins were named after there regions around Yorkshire they explored.
Design Brief
Develop a Retro-Futuristic brand experience for the Hooting Owl Distillery to appeal to social & enthusiastic university students in BoxPark North Market Place, Huddersfield.
Steampunk - Victorian
The Steampunk inspiration comes from the Victorian Age, from 1837 to 1901. The movement is directly aimed at victorian England and predicts what the world would be like today in modern technology.
Steampunk is the fusion of mechanical and technological elements such as exposed copper pipping and cog work.
The Victorian Era was around the same time as steampunk, however specifically focused on dark, rich colours and bold patterns. That highlights the era’s penchant for elaborate patterns and detailed craftsmanship.
This is a particular style I haven’t visited before, so I was intrigued to see how the design process was going to develop for this project and having to push myself into styles I’m not comfortable with.
Concept Board
Steam Punk meets Art Deco introduces a dynamic and intricate detailing that invites exploration and curiosity.
Using a mix of textures and ornate details inspired by The Hooting Owl Distillery. This promotes an educational but interactive experience, offering physical movement that expresses the originality of the brand.
The fusion of steampunks polished copper textures with art deco’s elegant curves creates an inviting atmosphere encourages sociability and spirited engagement among university students.
Concept Collages
The Gin Tasting experience invites customers on an immersive adventure to discover a wide range of gins and their unique flavours. Led by knowledgeable experts, participants delve into the history and intriguing tales associated with gin, all while enjoying the fun of dressing in Victorian-style attire.
The Miniature Tour provides a fascinating look into the art of gin-making, guiding customers through each step of the process. Participants discover the history behind gin, examine the equipment utilised, and savour tastings of signature gins. This experience is both engaging and educational, perfect for gin lovers and inquisitive visitors alike.
The yorkshire regions offers a insightful journey into its rich history and culture. Customers can explore iconic landmarks, learn about local traditions, and discover how the regions are so significant to “The Hooting Owl”
Creating digital concept collages through photoshop, requires an understanding of composition as complex multi- layers, that are created to Juxtapose the individual elements. The challenge is to create a uniformed understanding whilst communication the use of space and the individual features.

To create these 3D models I explored physically and digital but constructing the container through 3D physical model making however exploring the interior of the space through Procreate and Photoshop allowing me to design the same up to its full potential.
