BoxPark Part 2 - Flush
Design Brief
Designing the public toilets for BoxPark North, focusing on creativity, functionality, and compliance with the UK building regulations.
The space should be practical, efficient, and user friendly, while also reflecting the creative approach.
Visual Referencing
My visual reference was taken from The Hooting Owl brand with the traditional Victorian laboratory inspiration.
My take continues with the steampunk aesthetic but with a slightly unique approach incorporating brass/gold metals throughout along with a turquoise feature wall supported by dark oak wall panelling dividing the space up. I intend on still featuring the copper in the cog-work and piping as wall art, to continue the theme from the main container for Hooting Owl.
When creating this visual referencing board I began with visual research into what I felt represents the concept of steampunk/victorian era but with a modern take. Which I then presented on photoshop along with annotation and visual presentation.
Calculations & Space Planning
The following calculations and research belong to the Metric Handbook, allowing me to produce an appropriate floor plan and elevation following the correct measurements.
I was given in the brief that the toilet space should accommodate 500 people; therefore, I was then able to calculate 3 toilets and 3 sinks each, along with at least 1 disabled toilet and a cleaner's sink.
By responding to the Metric Handbook I was able to increase my skill set on the Building regulations on numerous spaces improving my knowledge in different topics.
